Anything Running in September, OctoberPosted: 28 Aug 09 9:23 AM
New to kayaking this year, debating on whether to purchase a bit more gear or wait until spring. Anything typically running in the fall or should I buy new skis instead ?

Gunni Gorge (still going strong), Westwater, Shoshone, Waterton/Foxton (depends on Denver water needs coming out of Robert's), L Blue (Fall is when there are downstream calls for the water, watch out for the strainer), Pumphouse...

Lots of sales going on right now, so a great time to buy gear (end of season kayak or clearing out last year's ski). But those that know me know that any time is a great time to buy new gear.

Pueblo is one of the best places in the world to learn anytime, especially in September / October. It's a drive, however. It's warm so gear needs are minimal.

Gear is cheap this time of year, of course. If you buy a drytop, make sure the gaskets are not already dry rotting on the rack.

Fall is good time to buy gear, so is march when people start trading up for the season. If you're willing to drive and don't mind the cold, you can find water until it's time to go skiing.

So I think the Ark is the lowest I've ever seen it right now. I wonder why?

October hole is running. Couple of guys out there today. Definitely a fun level. i don't know hole much longer it will run. But the gauge is accurate (at least good enough). 174 cfs you can do cart-wheels. The more the better. You can always reward yourself with a Silo burger and a Gordon's IPA at Oskar Blues afterwards.

Full vertical cartwheels, without slamming your kayak into the rocks? How about loops?

You'll hit rocks if you are too far forward. But no rocks on the pile, even full vertical. I don't think you can loop at 174cfs. I've seen looping around 250 (I think).
